CHAWENG BEACH

Chaweng Beach is the most developed beach, located on the East Coast of Koh Samui.  The beach is around 7 kilometres in length, with soft white sand and crystal blue waters and reefs.  There are two islands just off the beach, the first one is accessed by walking through the shallow water.  The second island is further out and a more scenic spot for snorkelling.

The beach is crowded with tourists and many different types of vendors selling most things, from beverages, to Thai handicrafts and souvenirs.  The night scene along Chaweng beach is bustling and always busy.  There are various venues offering all types of music, including traditional Thai tunes to jazz, rock and reggae.  Green Mango Square is located in the centre of Chaweng Beach and a hotspot for Koh Samui.  There are various go-go bars and shows, along with many other smaller, counter-style bars. The well-known Reggae Pub, established more than 14 years ago, features popular live and loud concerts. Its located on a small island in a lake, on a back street of Chaweng. Transvestite shows and bars can also be found in the middle of the main street.

Shopping in Chaweng Beach is an adventure in itself, with street markets selling most things for amazingly cheap prices. There are also several travel and tour offices dotted along this street.
