HUA HIN

HUA HIN

Hua Hin is 200 kilometres south of Bangkok and famous as a beach resort town.  This area is famous for the high contingency of the Thai royal family.  They were the first people to set this location onto the map, as the original seaside destination in Thailand.  The beach is around 5 kilometres long and a good place for sunbathing, snorkelling, swimming, playing golf, visiting spas, cave and waterfall exploring and the beautiful national parks.

HISTORY
In 1834 much of the area surrounding Hua Hin was struck by severe droughts, as a result farmers moved south and found Hua Hin, with its white sandy beaches and rows of rocks.  In 1921 the first hotel was built, the Railway Hotel, now the Sofitel.  The current King, Rama VII enjoyed the area so much he built a summer palace at Hua Hin.  He named this palace the Wang Klai Kang Won, meaning place far from worries.  This palace is now the full time residence of His Majesty the King of Thailand.  Prince Krom Phra later built a group of palaces at Ban Laem Hin, called the Sukaves, he was also the first person to name the beach next to his palace Hua Hin.

In 1949 Hua Hin became a district and the most popular beach resort in Thailand.
