MAENAM BEACH
MAENAM BEACH
Maenam Beach is located two kilometres from Bophut Beach and depicts a typical Thai village. The houses are mostly wooden, some made over 70 years ago. The beach is approximately four kilometres long, with golden sands. The beach is much less crowded than the popular Chaweng Beach, but equally as beautiful, with clear blue waters. The waters are no where near as shallow, making it an ideal spot for diving and water sports.
From the centre of the North coast of the island there are stunning views of both nearby islands of Ko Phangan to the North, and the Ang Thong National Marine Park to the East. Many speedboats going to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao depart from the Maenam Pier. Along the main road is a small town with some restaurants and shops. The restaurants and bars in Maenam still retain much of the local Thai flavor as well as being more reasonably priced.
Overall Maenam is quieter and more relaxed, with the local Thai community still pretty much intact. Meanam is also home to the Santiburi Resort, still considered by many to be one of the premier hotels on the island. There are also countless small bungalows dotting the coastline. For those in need of some pampering and stress relief, there are some great spa centres.
